# Genetic Loci indicates the NAMED stretches of DNA along the human genome that may contain one or more polymorphic sites. Genetic loci usually have official gene symbols or else D-numbers. Some genomic regions are either intergenic or else do not as yet have official gene symbols approved by the Human Gene Nomenclature committee (http//www.gene.ucl.ac.uk/hugo/). When no official genetic locus symbol is yet available, ALFRED sometimes displays an official gene symbol combined with the phrase 'region' attached (e.g. 'APOB region') or else an unofficial symbol proposed in a citation from the scientific literature.
# Polymorphic Sites indicates the total number of polymorphic sites (SNPs, InDels, STRPs, VNTRs, or multi-site haplotypes) with frequencies for at least one population sample. Many such polymorphic sites cluster within genetic loci.
