Locus Description: HS2.43 polymorphic Alu element belongs to the young (Ya5) subfamily of human-specific Alu repeats. It is located on chromosome 1. DNA sequence analysis revealed that it has a long 3'-oligo-dA-rich tail (17 nucleotides in length), a low level of random mutation, and was flanked by short precise direct repeats of 14 nucleotides in length.
