Locus Description: CXCL12 is a CXC-type chemokine that plays important roles in hematopoiesis, development, and organization of the immune system and supports the survival or growth of a variety of normal or malignant cell types. Stromal cell-derived factors 1-alpha and 1-beta are small cytokines that belong to the intercrine family, members of which activate leukocytes and are often induced by proinflammatory stimuli. Stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF-1) is a CXC chemokine that binds to its sole counterreceptor, CXCR4. This interaction has a pivotal role in the directional migration of cancer cells during the metastatic process.
