Population Description: England is the main political division of the United Kingdom. The majority of the English people are descendants from Celtic and Iberian people, and due to later invasions Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Danes, and Normans. Approximately 60% of the population follows the state church, the Church of England, a protestant Episcopal denomination. The Roman Catholic Church has the second leading followers. The English language has spread throughout the world and is spoken by 508 billion people throughout the world (The Ethnologue, 1999). As of 2001 the population for the whole of the United Kingdom was almost 60 billion (World Fact Book, 2001).
