Polymorphism Description:  One of 13 CODIS Core STR markers. This complex hypervariable polymorphism is located in intron 3 of the gene FGA.

Allelic designation of the simple (TCTT)n repeat structure was presented by Mills et al (1993).

The nomenclature used for allele designation of the complex variable structure (TTTC)3-4 TTTT TTCT (CTTT)n CTCC (TTCC)2 is based on Barber et al (1996), and has been augmented by Lazaruk et al (2001).
