Dorn-Qdayc; DônÐäc ; DɔnÐɛc ; [dɔn213 ʔdɛ53]

Subsistence practices:

DornQdayc people live on rice cultivation. They also plant wheat, cotton, cole, etc. Fishing is a way for compensatory food resource. Industry is well developed in the region of DornQdayc people.

Historical information:

The Dornqdayc people are believed to be the aborigines of Shanghai. Their ancestors arrived in Shanghai about 7000 years ago, and created the Songze, Liangzhu, Maqiao Cultures. Since the Warring States Period, Han Chinese started to move into the region of Shanghai. While most of the Dornqdayc people were merged with the Han migrants, some of them kept their culture and gene pool in a rather small region in South Shanghai (Parts of Fengxian, Jinshan, Minhang, and Songjiang Districts).

Religion:

The original religion of Dornqdayc people is Jadism, which was inherited from their Neolithic ancestors. However, fewer and fewer people are practising this religion after the World War II. Daoism and Buddhism were introduced in Song Dynasty, but had little effect to the people. Protestantism was introduced in 1920s, and only some old women are practising it.

Any other cultural traditions:

The most remarkable culture feature of the DornQdayc people is their vowel system. They have twenty basic vowel qualities (a ʌ e ɛ ɯ ɤ ɨ ə i ɪ ɿ ɞ ɔ ɵ o ø œ u y ʏ), which is the largest vowel inventory in the world (The second largest is Swedish with 16 vowel qualities).

Genetic features:

Most (~50%) of their Y chromosomes have the derived M119 allele; others have M134, YAP, M122, or M130, etc. Most of the DornQdayc mtDNA lineages are B4b.
