Sample Name: Pathan, HGDP-CEPH

Sample UID: SA001480N

Sample Description:This sample is part of the Human Genome Diversity Cell Line Panel collected by the Human Genome Diversity Project (HGDP) and the Foundation Jean Dausset (CEPH). This sample consists of unrelated individuals and was collected with proper informed consent.

Sample Information:

Graph estimated heterozygosities for various sites

Sample Name: Pathan

Sample UID: SA002873U

Sample Description:This sample consists unrelated individuals collected by Dr. Qasim Mehdi and colleagues in Pakistan. The Pathans inhabit the North West Frontier Province and Balochistan Province in Pakistan and parts of neighboring Afghanistan (Bellew 1998; Caroe 1958). They speak an Indo-European language, viz., Pushto (Grimes 1992). Legends claim that they are either the lost tribe of Israel or descendants of soldiers that came with Alexander the Great. This is not supported by current genetic data (Mansoor et al. 2004).

Number of Chromosomes: 184

Sample Name: Pathan, HGDP-CEPH

Sample UID: SA002262M

Sample Description:This sample is part of the Human Genome Diversity Cell Line Panel collected by the Human Genome Diversity Project (HGDP) and the Foundation Jean Dausset (CEPH). This sample consists of unrelated individuals and was collected with proper informed consent.

This sample is known as dataset "H1048" and is a subset of SA001480N.

Note: In many publications subset H952 of the HGDP panel (with first and second degree relatives excluded from the original set)/ H971 subset with only the first degree relatives excluded was typed and for this population that does not change the sample size.
