Sample Description: This sample consists of Kazakhs from southwestern Kazakhstan from Zhalagashskii raion, Kyzylorda oblast. The ethnic and tribal affliation of the individuals examined were determined through a questionnaire which included the data on the genealogy of the relatives down to three generations.

Zhuz is an economically and geographically independent region inhabited by a group of Kazakh tribes. The grouping of the tribes in the Junior Zhuz took place much later, in the 16th century after the break-up of the Nogay Horde and moving of some Nogais to the east.
