Sample Description: This sample was collected by Dr.Lotfi Cherni and consists of unrelated individuals that are primarily of Berber ancestry from Mehdia, Central Tunisia. Mehdia is an inland city of central Tunisia founded in Roman times. It is located in the Mahdia governorate of modern Tunisia. The impact of the Arab Bedouin invasion beginning fourteen centries ago was relatively weak in the region of Mehdia.

Berbers are indigenous peoples of North Africa that are culuturally and ethnically heterogeneous. In Tunisia, the two main Berber groups are the Zenata and Ketama tribes.
