Sample Description: This sample consists of unrelated individuals belonging to the Masai tribe in East Africa. Groups of Masai live in Kenya and Tanzania. This particular sample of Masai was collected from the Ekenywa area, close to the Tanzanian-Kenyan border along the Arusha-Nairobi highway. Most of the nomadic pastoralists sampled lived in make-shift locations in the Ekenywa area from where they could move to Monduli, Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater when occasion demanded. The manyatta (village consisting of warriors, their mothers, sisters and uninitiated girl lovers) visited were Engurutoto, Olkokola and Lamanyatta. Sampling then moved on further west to Losikito. This sample was collected by S. Kajuna and S. Kungulilo.
